1-2 Years of verifiable experience leading out of school time care programming. At least 1 year of experience leading subordinate staff members in a supervising role.

Description:

Under the general supervision of a Recreation Manager or Superintendent, a Youth Programs Supervisor/Coordinator has a direct line to the tone, styling, and selection of offerings for youth program participants. These offerings are routinely developed to provide quality out of school time care for working families. Programs under this umbrella, typically provide before and after school care as well as break activities which can include summer and winter breaks as so dictated by local school districts.

The primary responsibility with this position will always be the cultivation and development of offered programming. This includes any specific and or developmental enrichment opportunities that can be offered to participants. Programs should be clearly defined with identifiable and attainable goals observed by all staff members. Professionals within this field are often required to stay abreast of any new and emerging trends within the recreation community. This includes continued education in the form of classes, seminars, and certification.

As with most supervising positions, the Youth Programs Supervisor/Coordinator will be required to manage staff. This will include hiring, training, disciplining, developing, and in some situations firing staff members. Supervising professionals have a duty to both teach and guide any and all subordinate members under their charge. Team building and the adherence to a winning strategy will often be the difference between being successful in this role.
